1. A Domain Name
A domain name is simply the address of your website, for example www.thewebsitesolution.co.uk.
The chances are you already have a domain name, however if you don’t we can help you to arrange one for about £3 + vat a year for a .co.uk, or about £9 + vat a year for a .com, .net or .org.
You will need a hosting package with a database in any case, so you can probably get a domain name from the same people. In the case of the hosting company we recommend, 1 and 1, this is certainly the case. Having a hosting company that we are familiar with may also make things quicker alround during the setup phase. Unfamiliar hosts may be less conventional.

Free .co.uk’s
You may also be able to get your domain name for free with a 1 and 1 package if it is a .co.uk that you want.
Choosing a Domain Name
When choosing domain names it’s important to know what you are looking for.
A company will probably want a .com if they are global, or a .co.uk (or the extension suffix of their own country) if their business is local or only active in their own country.
A global charity or organisation will probably want a .org, whereas a UK charity is suited to a .org.uk.
