Yes, that’s right. For simplicity though, let’s call one Tags and the other Keywords.

…and in this context, Tags only apply to Posts, and not Pages. Keywords apply to both.

In WordPress, when you write an article you can choose to add two or three words that the article or page is about as ‘Tags’.

The purpose of this is that if someone wants to click on one of the ‘Tags’ they can see what other articles there may be about the same thing.

This adds an extra element to the user experience, kind of like an Index of book.

For example, I have added both ‘Tags’ and ‘Letters’ as Tags to this article, see below. You can click on either of these to see a (hyperlinked) list of all articles linked by the same tags.

Whilst there are no other articles tagged ‘Tags’, in order to give the example more meat, I have also tagged another article ‘Letters’, so you can see that they are both listed on the letter tag.

Click on the ‘Letters’ link below and you will see what I mean.

And under The Website Solution’s approach, all ‘Tagged’ words are automatically added as Keywords for the Meta-tags. These ‘Meta-tags’ are a different thing to visible Tags, and live in the coding behind the page. Any Keywords you add manually to the Keyword field are also included in the list of Meta-tag Keywords.

So by types, Keywords and Tags, are useful.

The image below shows how easy it is to add the visible type of Tags – you just type them into the Tags field in the editing screen…

Best wishes,
